BLESSING IN THE CLUSTER

 Drink, Drank, Drunk, Drunken

> DRINK, DRANK, DRUNK (1/2)

>CQ> Subject: alcohol
>Curious Questioner> I believe you have made reference to Josephus saying that the "wine" in the New Testament was not fermented.
I don't recall such a reference to Josephus saying such.

>RC> As long as the "skin" of the grape is not broken, there is no way that it can become alcoholic.
>RC> At MASADA in Palestine, there was a stock of food laid up against a seige, including wine, oil, pulse, dates, etc., and Josephus says: "These fruits were also fresh and full ripe, and no way inferior to such fruits newly laid in, although they were little short of a hundred years from the laying in of these provisions."

"HO, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price." (Isa.55:1)
>CQ> If you will look at the feast in John 2 that mentions the words of the govenor of the feast, you will see that they did use real alchohol.
"When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now." (John 2:9,10)
>CQ> The Greek root for drunk is methuo, which means to make drunken.
Kinda like our word METHANOL. ("have well drunk" = "METHUSTHOSIN") Methuselah means "The FLOOD shall come, when he is DEAD", from the simplified: "Drowning-rest" (Methu-selah). Selah.
>CQ> The people of the day obviously drank real alchohol. That is why there were waterpots, to water down the wine.
The "waterpots of stone" were for the WASHING of hands and feet! The servants put more water in the pots, drew some out and gave to the governor of the feast, but obviously they did NOT tell him where it came from! Really now, if someone took some water out of a pot that people had been washing their dirty hands in, would you drink it?

It must have taken some GUTS for those servants to OBEY such a thing! And right after the governor tasted it, he called upon their master! and they probably thought their goose was cooked! But he declared it to be better than the other. PURE SWEET GRAPE JUICE! NEW WINE!

Remember that Jesus is the Lord and the blessed true vine most pure. Be thou as new wine in the cluster sealed unto the day of redemption. "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy..."

> DRANK, DRUNK, DRUNKEN (2/2)

>Curious Questioner> I heard one man say that the reason the disciples could not stay awake was because of the wine that they had with the Passover meal.
Nonsense. It was well after their normal bedtime. And there is NO mention of "wine" in any of the accounts of the last supper. They had the "fruit of the vine" there, and the grapes were freshly "pressed" into the "cup." (See the prophecy in Gen.40.)
>CQ> Not to say that one sould walk into church with a beer in hand.
Do you think a church-building is more holy than the BODY of a saint, which is the temple of the Holy Ghost? Grieve not the holy Spirit of God, where by ye are SEALED unto the day of redemption!
>CQ> He dismisses not using alchohol as legalism. I think that we should be sensitive to those who believe that alchohol is sinful. I don't drink.
"Now the works of the flesh are manifest... drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." (Gal.5:19p,21p)
>CQ> We have Coke and lemonade, and cool aid now.
Whatever. I had a cup of grape juice while preparing this message.
>CQ> But, in those days they drank alchohol. I do not see how one can refute it honestly.
MANY people since the time of Noah have given themselves over to spirits of alcohol. Christians are supposed to "be sober."

"Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the -will- of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Eph.5:17-20)

The grace of the Lord Jesus be with your heart. Amen. --Richard
