>CQ> Just what generation is Jesus talking about? Jesus, in referring to "this" generation, was referring not to the one hearing His words, but the generation that, according to the context, was seeing the sign of the fig tree: to wit, the generation spoken of in Proverbs 30.

Which fig tree sign? Matthew's male tree ("his branch"), Mark's female tree ("her branch"), or Luke's multi-tree ("the fig tree, and all the trees")? Any trees in the 4 generations of Prov.30:11-14?

>RC> Subj: "THIS GENERATION"

>CQ3> I guess Jesus was lying, when he said all of these things would happen during his generation.

The Lord Jesus did not say the things would happen in "his" generation, but rather spoke of something called "this generation." Comparing scripture with scripture: "These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens," (Gen.2:4)

"Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." (--The Lord Jesus, Matt.24:34,35)

THIS GENERATION OF THE EARTH has not yet passed away. We are still looking forward to the new heaven and new earth according to the blessed promise. THIS GENERATION OF THE EARTH is reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men:

"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." (2Pet.3:10)

"Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness." (2Pet.3:13)

THIS GENERATION OF THE EARTH shall pass away, according to the word of truth, and then we see the new generation of the new earth. Remember that Jesus is the Lord and receive the love of the truth.

Grace be to them that cherish the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. --Richard
