TEMPORAL/ETERNAL

From a message of 18Apr1994 from a Curious Questioner--
>CQ> Subj: THIEF ON THE CROSS

>>Previous Person> So, it sounds to me like there is a separation of body, soul, and spirit. Body suffers death, but the soul and spirit are ETERNAL!

Correction: Bodies can die, and the soul that sinneth can also die. "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are TEMPORAL; but the things which are not seen are ETERNAL." (2Cor.4:18) The entirety of the physical creation that can be seen is temporal, but the invisible spiritual things of God are eternal.

>CQ> Yes, there is a difference in body, soul, and spirit. The spirit is the breath of life that keeps you alive, the body is the flesh, when you combine the spirit with the flesh you become a living soul.

The "breath of life" is more than just breath of air. The physical air you breathe is temporal. Your "spirit" has eternal existence.

>CQ> but the soul cannot exist without the body and the spirit.

"And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah: and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived." (1Kngs.17:22)

Obviously his soul did not cease to exist apart from his body. In the case of the death of Rachel in Genesis, her soul DEPARTED long before her body was buried. Don't confuse death with non-existence. A rock has existence, but normally isn't considered to be alive.

The scriptures of life speak of the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob. God is not the God of the dead, but of the LIVING. Obviously then, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are very much ALIVE!

>>PP> Of course that is until the Body is resurrected and glorified as Jesus body was, and as all bodies will be!!!!!!!!!!!!

>CQ> Not all bodies will be glorified, the wicked won't be.

Correct. The saints will receive glorified bodies made in the image of Christ. The wicked will receive bodies like their father the devil, that old serpent, and be cast into eternal fire, where their worm dieth not.

>CQ> This is all off the top of my head...

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh, (and the fingers typeth. :)

Remember that Jesus is the Lord and always have an open heart to receive the love of the truth. (Be not deceived. :) Grace be to your heart in love for Jesus' sake. Amen. --Richard

EVENING & MORNING

From a message of 24Apr1994 from a Curious Questioner--
>CQ> Subj: LORD'S DAY

>>Previous Person> The Hebrew words 'Vyehi Erev, Vyehi Boker' imply a clear cronological relationship.

>CQ> Both the English and the Hebrew would naturally imply the chronological relationship. That doesn't mean that the relationship did in fact occur that way.

The "darkness" (Gen.1:2p) clearly came before the "light" (1:3p) in "the beginning" (1:1p). (Don't overlook the obvious. :)

>CQ> Gen 8:22 and 1 Samuel 19:11 both give a sunrise-to-sunrise understanding of reckoning the day.

Gen.8:22 does not mention a transition between 24h-days, but is a promise that both day and night shall not cease (while the earth remains.) 1Sam.19:11 does not mention a transition between 24h-days, but has only a night followed by a morning/morrow. There was no mention of a change of date in either of those places.

From a message of 26Apr1994 from a Curious Questioner--
>CQ> Subj: EVENING AND MORNING

>CQ> This reading would see God creating the heavens and earth, waiting 12 hours, and then creating light. After another 12 hours, the day ended.
>CQ> Gen 1:5 then summarizes what has already transpired, looking back--the [previous] evening and the [previous] morning were the first day.

And obviously the evening there was "previous" to the morning.

>CQ> Another way is to consider that all the work God did that week was in the mornings.

The "darkness" (Gen.1:2p) was obviously created before the morning.

>CQ> After instantly creating the heavens and earth, God immediately created light. This began the first morning, and God began his work.

Nope. His work began with the creation of the heaven [singular] and the earth, and there is an obvious time-delay between 1:1 and 1:3, and obvious activity of the Spirit of God, prior to the appearance of light.

>CQ> During this period of light, he created the angels.

Angels are likened unto stars in the Bible, and stars usually appear when it is dark or twilight. The "morning stars" (Job.38:7p) were already present when the LORD laid the foundations of the earth. Remember that Jesus is the Lord and be wise to cherish the truth. Grace be to your heart in the love of the truth. Amen. --Richard
