>CQ> Matthew 21:29... same word repent (Strong's) and that person did the will of the Father... hmmmm... You have certainly used the classic teaching, but I am not so sure in my mind that it is correct. What say you?
The difference between Peter's repentance and that of Judas is simple. Judas was sorry things didn't work out as he thought, and he "repented himSELF." (self-pity) He was sorry for what he had done. Peter was sorry for WHO he had denied. His heart was grieved after he denied the Lord, and THEN the Lord looked upon him, and Peter went out and wept bitterly.
"Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death." (2Cor.7:9,10)
Peter's sorrow led him back to Gethsemane where he had fallen asleep, instead of watching and praying like he was told, and he had himself a one-man prayer meeting like nothing you can imagine.
Judas' sorrow was worldly sorrow that leads to death, and that is where he ended up. Even while he was betraying Jesus, the Lord still treated him as a "Friend." He just didn't have the heart to face the Lord after that. Remember that Jesus is the Lord and let thy sorrow be of the godly sort. Grace be to thy heart in love. Amen. --Richard
