From a message by a Curious Questioner--
>CQ> Subj: ACTS 2:38 CONT'D
>>QU> ... Matthew 28:19 ... He did not say to baptize in the titles...
>>QU> ... the disciples never baptized in any way but in the name of Jesus. (See Acts 2:38; Acts 8:16; Acts 10:48;
Acts 10:48p-- "...in the name of the Lord." (gentile baptism)
Only the Son of God is called Jesus in the holy scriptures of truth. The one name by which all three are called is: "the Lord." To be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; is to be baptized in the name of the Lord.
>CQ> Please show ONE place where it actually says, "I now baptize you in the name of Jesus Christ."
>CQ> In the name of" means that whatever we do, it should be BY THE AUTHORITY of Jesus Christ.
Acts 16:18-- "And this did she many days. But Paul being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour."
>>QU> Third, God will pour out the gift of the Holy Ghost on us as He did on the disciples, and we will receive the same Bible evidence-speaking in other tounges.
>CQ> Holy Spirit baptism was promised to the APOSTLES, not Christians in general. Listen to the context of Acts 1: "...give commandment unto the APOSTLES whom he had chosen..." "...they..."
>CQ> Notice the pronouns, ye, they and them. They grammatically refers to the apostles and the apostles alone.
Yes, the "apostles" were promised that they would "receive power". The signs of an apostle were not given to Christians in general.
However, we are informed many places in the holy scriptures that John baptized with water, but that the Lord Jesus would baptize with the Holy Ghost. "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit." (1Cor.12:13)
All believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are baptized by the Spirit of God, but all do not speak with tongues:
"For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom..." - "...to another divers kinds of tongues... But all these worketh that one and selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will." (1Cor.12:8p,10p,11)
The word of faith says, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Some people only say that Jesus is "Lord". Christians believe "that Jesus is the Lord." Grace be to them that love the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. --Richard
