The coming DAY

From a message by a Curious Questioner--
>CQ> Subj: DENOMINATIONS

>>QU> Adam and Eve lived for a very long time, over a hundred years.

>CQ> Yes, but where does it say they had more children?

"And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:" (Gen.5:4)

"AND it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them," (Gen.6:1)

>CQ> Also is over 100 years in todays standard measure of time?

Not exactly. Todays "second" is defined by an atomic standard, rather than being just 1/86400th of a mean 24-hour day. The length of the years is gradually changing. Nevertheless, a year is still considered to be one whole orbit of the earth around the sun. (The scientific fact that the earth "is turned" is evident in Job 38:14p, and that the outline of the earth appears to be a "circle" from a polar viewpoint is evident in Isaiah 40:22p :)

"And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:" (Gen.1:14)

Notice that there is no mention of months; only days and years. The reason seems to be because a month begins at the "new moon", (not the astronomical new moon when the sun and moon are on the same longitude and the moon is dark, but about a day later when the first sliver of light on the moon appears.)

"And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also." (Gen.1:16)

So, the time of the month when the moon totally RULES the night is the time of FULL MOON, when the moon rises as the sun sets, and rules for the entire night until sunrise/moonset. Therefore on the fourth day, the sun appeared on the "day" side of the earth, and the moon appeared on the opposite side of the earth at full phase.

"And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." (Gen.1:5)

Notice that "day" is defined in two different senses: The first use of "Day" is in the sense of the "daylight" half of the earth, (as Jesus said, "Are there not twelve hours in the day?" Jn.11:9p :)

And the second sense of "day" is in the sense of a whole rotation, with the evening ("darkness" Gen.1:2p) first, and the morning ("light" Gen.1:3p) second, both which, UNITED, were "the first day."

Our primary concern should be a special future "day" that is at hand, even "the day of the LORD", which is coming upon the earth. NOW is the day of salvation. Don't wait until it is too late. Turn your whole heart unto the Lord Jesus Christ who died for our sins, and was raised for our justification through faith in his blood. Grace be to your heart with joy, for Jesus' sake. Amen. --Richard
