"But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind." (Job.12:7-10)
From a January 1993 reply to a message by a Curious Questioner--
Subj: Bio-ism-itis? :)
>>RC> What are the ism's? Obviously the ism's are not what either side believes, but rather, the ism's are the false perception by one of the other's position.
>CQ> One of the problems that we, as biologists, tend to have with creationist talk of "kinds" is that we never get a clear or consistent answer as to what constitutes a "kind."
Is that any reason for not being "kind" to creationists? (smile :)
(Yikes! MESSAGE INTERRUPTION!! See explanation in next message. :)
At the point of interruption in the previous answer, I felt a STRANGE tickling sensation on one of my fingers of my left hand. BEHOLD! It was a tiny ant, who seemingly had been engaged in a long and difficult exploratory journey, from the floor to my finger. Perhaps he wants to join with me in saying: "Here we are!" >:) --ant/smile?
Ah, but how did "we" get here? Well, I got here by walking across the floor and sitting down in the chair. As for how the ant got here, well, there are some obvious possibilities. He walked across the floor and either proceeded up one of my legs to where I found him, or up one of the chair legs to where he was found.
But wait, we have to eliminate THOSE possibilities, because we can't use the long and imaginary evolutionary time-scale to account for these things, since the amount of time since I arrived here is much LESS than the time (at ant speed) for that ant to cover the distance from the floor to my hand.
So, we need to come up with another possibility for this somewhat "cloaked in mystery" situation: Ah so! (An additional hitherto undiscovered country fact comes to light:) Because it was somewhat cool in this room; BEFORE I sat down, I had picked up the cloak hanging from the back of the chair and put it on just before sitting. Apparently then, the ant had already moved from the floor to the cloak before my arrival and only had to cover a very SHORT distance (at ant-speed :) to arrive on my finger amongst antenna-like hairs. (Things are not always as they appear, Friend. :)
Now, since the ant entangled in the hair on my finger (and entangled in this discussion indirectly) was beginning to "bug" me, I got up and GENTLY shook him off onto the concrete floor behind me, midway between two access holes into the under-floor ant domain. One of the holes was due to the "chance" cracking and opening of the concrete. The other opening CLEARLY bears evidence of creation! (Previous to this discussion, I had taken an awl, inserted it into a crack and created a large ant-access opening. The awl-marks are still evident!)
What now can we discover about the "origin" of the ant, prior to its "most excellent adventure"? Well, after his fall from "heaven", KERPLUNK, momentary loss of sense of direction, gets up, brushes ant-self off, re-adjusts antenna, starts moving, (decides to put in a request for hazardous duty pay, or take a long vacation? :) and then, ah, but which is its hole of origin?
Does it go to the "chance-evolution" hole first? or does it go to the "creation-by-design" hole first? And if it arrives at the wrong hole and realizes its error, will it eventually end up at the right hole?
Smart ant! He checks with other ants enroute, and although some of the ants were more interested in going one way than the other, he was eventually able to arrive at his original destination: ("Manna from Heaven!" --Ant/talk for: "Oh wow! There I was wondering all over creation getting more and more hungry, and here, Lo! a paper-plate on the side-lines BETWEEN the two positions with... Yummy-yum-yum... :)
Well, I hope you got some food for thought (or think for drink) here. (The Lord Jesus be gracious in opening your eyes. Amen. --Richard :)
