America: A "Christian" nation?

From a message by a Curious Questioner--

>>QU> The truth of the matter is that the Americans turned back the immigrating Jews in [droves] during WWII.

>CQ> With good reason. We're supposed to be a Christian nation.

Real Christians treat the Jews as "beloved for the fathers' sakes." Even if you considered them as enemies, yet the Bible is clear on proper treatment: "Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink:" (Food for thought, and think for drink, but God giveth the increase! Remember that Jesus is the Lord! :)

>>QU> Really? Where does it say that are a "Christian nation" and should exclude all other religions?

>CQ> The Supreme Court said it... in the late 1800's.

True, that is, they said "it", but I question, In what context?--

"On February 29, 1892, the U.S. Supreme Court AFFIRMED UNAMIMOUSLY: 'THIS IS A CHRISTIAN NATION' (143 U.S. 471). And that decision, has NEVER been REVERSED!" (--A.V.Bible Tract Newsletter, Jan-Feb 1981)

(Possibly someone else has, and can post, MORE of the context of that decision, so we can see what those judges meant by "Christian"?)
[See Link at bottom to text of that Supreme Court case.]

"This nation had its beginnings with the Pilgrim voyage to this country 'undertaken for ye glorie of God, and advancemente of ye Christian faith and honour of our king' (according to the Mayflower Compact of Nov.11,1620)." [old style date]

The first [constitutional] president of the U.S.A. said: "It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to be grateful for His benefits and protection, and pray with grateful hearts for religious LIBERTY of which we are blessed."

In one of Washington's prayers, he said: "ALMIGHTY GOD, who has GIVEN us this good land for OUR HERITAGE, we humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will... Defend our liberties... Endue with the spirit of wisdom those whom in Thy Name we entrust the Authority of Government, that there may be peace and justice at home, and that through obedience to thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth... through Jesus Christ -our- LORD. Amen."

And not to leave out the third branch of government (legislative), the first Congress recognized that God's Judgment was higher than the Supreme Court, when they appealed to "the Supreme Judge of the world" in that document by which this nation became supposedly independent.

"Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." (Prov.14:34) This nation needs to be brought to its KNEES!

(Proverbs 29:2--) "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn."

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be unto US all. Amen. --Richard
