From a message by a Curious Questioner--
>CQ> Subject: Adam and Eve

>CQ> Does anyone know if anywhere in the Bible it claims that all of humankind came from Adam and Eve?

The Iraqi king's "mother of all battles" statement came thousands of years later than the FIRST "mother of all" expressions: "And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was THE MOTHER OF ALL living." (Gen.3:20) The word "Eve" basically means "Life." (Viva! :)

Noah was descended from Adam through Seth (not Cain), and he with his wife and three sons (Japheth, Shem, Ham) and their wives, alone survived the great flood. "These are the three sons of Noah: and OF THEM was the whole earth overspread." (Gen.9:19)

>CQ> We don't read of Adam until Gen. 2:15...

By the NAME of "Adam" he is not mentioned until Gen.2:19,20, where he gave NAMES to every living creature that the Lord brought to him.

>CQ> And then we read of the creation of Eve.

"For Adam was first formed, then Eve." (1st Timothy 2:13)

>CQ> The story later states that Adams children married so their were obviously "other" men and women around in the world.

Adam had other "sons and daughters" according to Gen.5:4. It was legal in those days to marry close relatives. (Adam and Eve had the same Father. :) In the book of the "Antiquities", the historian Josephus says of Adam, that "he had indeed many other children, but Seth in particular. As for the rest, it would be tedious to name them." (Antiq., Bk.1, Ch.2, S.3) Another source says: "The number of Adam's children, as says the old tradition, was thirty-three sons and twenty-three daughters."

>CQ> It is my understanding that Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy were written by Moses and tell the beginning of the nation Isreal.

Israel is spelled with the A before the E. (Adam before Eve! :) The King's english of the Authorized 1611 Version has 27 letters in it's alphabet, with the additional letter looking like an A married to an E. (SEE Mk.10:46 in the Author's Version. :)

As a nation, Israel doesn't begin until Moses led them out of Egypt. As a family, the Israelites began with Jacob, called Israel. The term "Jew" originally pertained to descendents of Israel's son Judah, but those of the other tribes of Israel that remained WITH Judah when the northern tribes were scattered are also called Jews now.

Through Adam, sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so all people today need to receive, by faith, the Lord Jesus Christ; who died for our sins and rose again from the dead for our justification through faith in his blood. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Grace be with you. Amen. --Richard
