The cubit of king Hezekiah, based on the stated 1200 cubit length of his conduit from Gihon to Siloam and the present-day measure of 1775 feet, would indicate Hezekiah's cubit was about 17.75 inches.
"Cubits" range from less than 12 inches in the case of Pygmies, to more than 36 inches, in the case of Giants. The cubit of the king of Bashan was estimated to be 39.37 inches. (A Meter-long Cubit! :)
The "1992 World Almanac and Book of Facts" gives a Roman Cubit of 17.5 inches, a Greek Cubit of 18.3 inches, and a so-called "Biblical Cubit" of 21.8 inches.
Collier's Encylopedia (Weights and Measures, pages 394,395) gives an Arabian(black) cubit of 21.3 inches, an Arabian(hashimi) cubit of 25.6 inches, an Assyrian cubit of 21.6 inches, an ancient Egyptian cubit of 20.6 inches, an ancient Israeli cubit of 17.6 inches, an ancient Grecian cubit of 18.3 inches, and an ancient Roman cubit of 17.5 inches; The last two agree with the 1992 World Almanac ones.
Webster's unabridged dictionary gives a Roman cubit of 17.4 inches, and an Egyptian cubit of 20.64 which is about the same as Collier's. And, (of course,) Webster's ENGLISH dictionary for english-speaking people in the U.S.A., gives a modern ENGLISH CUBIT of 18 inches.
NOW, as for the length of NOAH's forearm, which is what the cubit of the ark is based on, you remember that I said "more likely 20 inch cubit." Which would indicate an ark of about 500 feet in length. And that agrees with the survey made by the team of 100 men ("army engineers and specialists from the 14th Battalion"), who took "photos and measurements" of the ark, and said, "it was about 500 ft. long."
CONVERSION TO METERS?
To convert from 18-inch cubits to feet, you multiply by 1.5 EXACT; and then from feet to meters, multiply by .3048 EXACT; and multiply the 3 dimensions to get more than 43,006 cu.meters.
(137.16 x 22.86 x 13.716 = 43,006.2107616 cubic meters EXACT. :)
Ark: from Heb.'Tebah'(taw-bah), meaning box, chest, or coffin; It "was not a ship with sloping sides, rudder, and mast, but rather a bargelike repository intended only to float and to withstand the impact of waves. Shaped thus, its carrying capacity was one-third greater than a ship of similar length, and it would have been almost impossible to capsize." (Wycliffe Bib.Encyl., p.140)
"As early as 1609-21, Peter Janson of Holland built a large model of the ark and demonstrated the efficiency of its design and proportions. Not until the last half of the 19th cen. was a ship built with dimensions exceeding that of the ark." (ibid.)
You can make a small model by taking 10"x1"x2" piece of wood and cut 1/3-inch off one edge, toss it into a tub full of water and splash some ark-height waves at it. Then carve it down to a roundish-bottom narrow-bow shape and do likewise; and "Check it out!" (TIC TOC :)
